What Customers Say About Designing Great Beers: The Ultimate Guide to Brewing Classic Beer Styles:

A great resource. Part Two in the book offers detailed history, evolution, and guidelines for designing specific styles of beer. This is the book for hombrewers ready to move into designing their own recipes (extract or all grain) An excellent "how-to" manual for recipe formulation, tips, and ingredient information. Some parts seem calculation heavy, but are actually quite simple once you get the hang of it.

Worth the money. I have blindly mixed ingredients from other books, internet sites, but i didnt know exactly what i was doing until i go this book. great learning tool and great refernece. This book is great. Now I am close to the beer i like and I kn ow how to alter it to get it to the way i like. Its technical enough to explain all aspects of the brewing process. It explains most of every step in making your own beer. But also easy to understand.

Highly recommended for the brewer that would like to take his/her brewing to the next level. This book has a ton of very useful information and is written to be understood. The author took the time to put a very nice tutorial together on a broad subject and was honest enough to convey it is not a complete account of all things.

So if you are looking for a book that will help you construct a grain bill for your award winning stout or trying to figure out how much gypsum you need for that porter, this book is for you. Instead, it is a great compilation of equations, tables and facts that will greatly help the consistency, quality and authenticity of the beer you produce. I wish I bought this book years ago. This book is amazingly well written and immediately applicable for either the home brewer or small craft brewery. It's not for beginners wanting to copy down some easy recipes.

Given that the data is about 10 years old now and is focused on only a small sample, I do wonder how relevant that portion of information is now and what may have changed since. A very useful and informative book, packed with lots of great in-depth detail, covering a wide range of information from historic beer-brewing facts and analysis through to modern home-brewing techniques and tips. However, a substantial portion of the information provided focuses on 'NHC Second-Round Beer' and what (home) brewers used (or did not use) in their entries into the second-round of the NHC Competition. So much so that at times it almost seems like a statistical analysis of the competition entries.
